The little village of Philadelphia will be 150 years old
in 2013. This historic town originated when farmers grew
tired of trekking to Durbanville and Cape Town to go to
church. The NG Kerk was founded in 1863 and
Philadelphia, the village, started taking shape after
that.
Today this beautiful historic town is a weekend getaway
for Capetonians. It is situated on the N7 about 30 km
from Malmesbury. The majestic church with it’s short
fortress-like tower still guards the entrance to town.
To be part of the Philadelphia means to know everybody
by name. Philadelphia does after all mean “brotherly
love”. There is sense of community and a togetherness
that few other places have.
